  February 14th, also known as Valentine's Day, is a holiday celebrated around the world to recognize and express love and affection between romantic partners. The holiday has its roots in ancient Rome, where a festival called Lupercalia was held in mid-February to celebrate fertility and the coming of spring.   The origin of Valentine's Day is somewhat unclear and there are several different stories and legends associated with the holiday.
